Description:

This 4-day orientation introduces staff to the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare (BMCW), the BMCW Vision and Mission Statements, and the design and operations of the BMCW. Responsibilities of the BMCW are addressed with the participants from the perspective of a family within the system. The State of Wisconsin Zero Tolerance Policy regarding Violence in the Workplace is also covered within this orientation session. The second day of this training includes Car Seat Training, MUTT overview and a tour of the Child Protection Center. Day 3 and 4 includes "Life of Case" activity and Preservice Learning Activiteis for Community Experience (PLACE) activity.

Presenters:

Carolyn Lee

Carolyn L. Lee – MSW, APSW is a Site Manager for the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare. She is also a trainer with the Milwaukee Child Welfare Partnership for Professional Development, located in the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. In that capacity, she is responsible for training newly hired staff through a training entitled Introduction to the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare. In addition, she is also a part-time social worker for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Ms. Lee received her Bachelors Degree in Social Work from North Carolina A & T State University and a Masters Degree of Social Work from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. Her career, over the last 16 years, has focused in the area of social service management in child welfare in Milwaukee County. Ms. Lee has served as Site Manager for the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare for the past 7 years; and prior to coming to the Bureau, she was Section Manager for Milwaukee County Department of Human Services for 4 years. She has also served as invited lecturer in the School of Social Welfare at UW-M and Mount Mary and has presented numerous seminars and workshops at professional conferences. She is a member of the National Association of Black Social Workers. Ms. Lee has been recognized by several organizations for her work in the community. She is active on various boards and has held a number of positions with her local professional organizations.

Denise Wolodko

Ms. Denise Wolodko, MSW, MFT is currently a Curriculum and Instruction Manager for the Milwaukee Child Welfare Partnership for Professional Development located in the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. Ms. Wolodko received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in 1991 and her Master's Degree in Social Work with an emphasis in Child Welfare in 1997 from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. She is also certified as a Marriage and Family Therapist. Ms. Wolodko brings twenty years experience in the field of social welfare, working with diverse populations in need. She began her career as a counselor and then supervisor working in a residential setting with the mentally ill. She went on to work with the federally funded Target Cities Program, as an AODA case manager with indigent clients located in Milwaukee County. She then began her work in Child Welfare system as a foster care worker with the Milwaukee County Department of Human Services. After receiving her MSW, she began working in the Special Needs Adoption Program, matching children with adoptive homes. In August of 2001, she attained the position of supervisor in the Special Needs Adoption Program with Children’s Service Society, as contracted with the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare. She remained in this position until February of 2007, when she began her current position as Curriculum and Instruction Manager with the Milwaukee Child Welfare Training Partnership.
